I'm On My Way...(almost)

Hello all!
This is my last post from home before I take flight and eventually land in Madrid and make my way via train (I heart you, Renfe) to Salamanca!!!!!!!! And this is how I'm feeling right now, despite having 99% packed...

Okay, okay, not that bad. But kind of overwhelmed. I haven't seen anyone Spanish (except via Skype) since LAST YEAR, for crying out loud! I've been talking to Julio via skype and that's "helped" me "maintain" my Spanish but frankly, starting classes on Monday is going to be....like being thrown in a lake to learn how to swim. Or something. I'm excited, and I'll write more about all that once I settle in back in the Residencia (and I'll take photos of my amazing new posters.....muahaha thanks dad and aaron!). Anyway, I still need to shower and finish some presents and update my iPod and last-minute weirdo details before I leave around noon tomorrow....oh, I'm flying to Philly first, and departing the US of A at 9pm...and then get dinner. And arrive in Spain at 4am my body's time, which will be....not a picnic. So I feel like this, still!

Okay, okay, I need to chill out. It's almost midnight and I neeeed my sleep tonight! And on the plane tomorrow. Eek. I'm still sick, too, so I need to recuperate! Thanks to all the supremely hospitable MiddKids and BoboKids who entertained and took care of me on your respective campuses, thanks to the lovely friends who visited me/hung out with me over winter break, thanks to everyone who reads this blog and thanks to my family for feeding me and taking such good care of me over these past few weeks! I miss you all, already, more than you know. =)

And with that slightly deranged and disheveled look, I'm off to bed one last time before summertime in my own sweet american bed.

Sweet dreams, and stay safe! And keep this country under control until I get back, okay?!?!
Much much much love and aching,

How to Take Down a Christmas Tree

Photobucket

Dad takes charge and cuts off the top of the tree, effectively beheading it.
Photobucket

Then it's time to thin things out, dropping branches left and right and littering the floor with trillions of pine needles.
Photobucket

The lower branches catch some of the upper ones as they fall, forming a sort of net.
Photobucket

Dad continues to show the tree who is boss.
Photobucket

I mean, seriously, my Dad is clearly the boss here.
Photobucket

The loppers are used to thin out the bottom branches.
Photobucket

It's probably time to haul some of these branches outside, kiddos.
Photobucket

And this is our freshly shaven poodle-looking tree.
Photobucket

It doesn't get much bleaker than this!

The aftermath.

Feliz Año Nuevo!!!!!!

Hey all!

I know, I know, you already knew this, but happy 2008!

Just wanted to check in and let you guys know that the current countdown for back-to-spain is 31 days.
I leave here on Feb 1st and get into Madrid on Feb 2nd at 10am. And it will be 4am for my body. Ouch.

Sammie's been visiting me for the past few days (to ring in the new year), it's been super snowy and lovely, I saw McCoy Tyner in concert at the RegattaBar in Cambridge, I had a billion relatives here (yay! loved seeing you guys! wish you could all come to Spain......!), there was FOOD and there were presents and oh MAN were there desserts...sigh. Yum. Incredible. We actually just made crepes for dessert tonight.

Here are some photos just for your entertainment, in case you didn't catch them on Facebook. I'll hopefully write a REAL update sometime in the near future. Maybe when we run out of sweets...well, that would never happen. HA. I'm hilarious.

p.s. I'm planning on visiting Middlebury the weekend of the 18th and Bowdoin the weekend of the 25th, so if you're reading this and you were unaware of that fact, now you know! And we should hang out. Definitely.
