Musings on a recent gym visit

Hello all!

As I have now gone to the gym a total of 4 (yes, count 'em!) times this month (I just joined 8 days ago, okay?!) I feel like it is time to use the positive energy I get from all the endorphins pumping through my veins rather than wallow in the negativity I am currently dealing with.

This negativity comes from being one day past one of the most useless "training" sessions for my job and one day away from a dreaded meeting at school at which unfortunate (and TOTALLY UNWANTED on my end) changes are likely to take place...changes that will cause me to switch schedules with my co-auxiliares twice over the next 6 months, something that I think needs no explanation as to why it is a Bad Idea (but if you want to hear my reasons, just shoot me an email!). There is a lot I could write about frustration and anger and unfairness and selfishness of coworkers, but in the interest of trying to maintain some semblance of professionalism, I will avoid that. Plus if things go well tomorrow and I am able to plead my case, there will perhaps be less need for aggressive feelings on my end. Phew. Time to change the subject.

Anyway!

How totally goofy are aeroboxing classes, if you've ever seen one?! That is, how funny is it to observe aerobics or vaguely tae-bo-y classes, especially when the teacher is about 7 times more amped up and flexible (you should have seen his high kicks!) than his students, or when 2 of the class members are elderly men trying their darndest to keep up (what were they thinking?!) or when the music is reaaaaaaally techno-y and freaking FAST! I mean really, if there is anything that would make other species laugh uproariously at humans, where else would they need to go but an organized pump-up exercise class?? Hilarious. I was seriously watching from the treadmill with my eyebrows raised and a sort of mouth-agape stare, worried for the heart health of the participants and wondering how sore they will all be tomorrow.

The other thing I wanted to add about gym-going is that today I got involved in a unexpectedly complicated/long conversation with a guy on the ONE treadmill at this gym after I asked him if there was anyone waiting to use it after him (20 minute limit). I still don't know what his answer was, but during the ensuing semi-flirtatious (ON HIS END!) conversation, in order to make the exchange end ASAP, I may or may not have told him that I was studying here and that I still had 1 year left of university back in the states (younger-seeming=less appealing??!?!), as well as that I lived in Arguelles and that I rarely came to this gym (he was all "do you come every day?"). You might think I'm a cold-hearted person because this guy was clearly just trying to have a simple conversation...but he thought London was in the US, so...end of story.

Anyway.

Time for me to eat some dinner and prepare myself mentally for tomorrow's meeting.

Wish me luck and hopefully I'll SERIOUSLY get around to posting my freaking Rome photos before the year ends...har har har...

Snow Day

Despite all the dread and depressingly doom-based thoughts I fell asleep to last night...

Today was a snow day!

Not back to school yet, after all!

Okay, I made it all the way to school and hung around for about an hour while they decided what to do with me (no classes but school was technically open, because many parents can't leave their kids at home or with anyone else if they need to work). Only about 20 kids in the whole school showed up but all the teachers came! Ah, well, Back to work tomorrow. And a short week, hot damn!

In other good news, I joined a gym today (I think it's actually closer to my house than the fitness center was at Bowdoin to my dorm senior year...!) and actually EXERCISED!!! And observed a pilates class while I did it. More to come on that experience, but basically unless I figure out the key times to go, I might only be there for the month's membership and will search for another one by mid-february. Ah well. It works for now!

Aaaaand I know I am long overdue on a post about Valencia, Christmas break, New Year's in Salamanca and of course, Rome with Julio!

But I'm still writing captions for Valencia and editing through Rome photos (took over 1,000.....) and now it's time for bed. Oh, I also took snow photos today!

Thanks for reading!
